Scouts in Enfield take on the challenge of the Chiltern 20

Last week, Scouts from across Enfield took on the demanding Chiltern 20 Challenge — an annual hiking event that tests endurance, navigation and teamwork across the stunning Chiltern Hills.

Teams representing groups from across Enfield laced up their boots and headed out:

A junior team (aged 10½ to 12½) tackled the 10 km route, navigating between checkpoints using map and compass.
An older Scouts team (aged 12½ to 14½) braved the full 20 km course, covering tougher ground and demonstrating excellent teamwork along the way.

We’re incredibly proud of how our young people rose to the challenge. The juniors hiked with energy and determination, while the older Scouts showed true resilience and spirit, supporting each other right to the finish.

Adult volunteers from Enfield were also out in force, helping to make the event possible. As one of them, Tina Plewes, shared:

“It’s not just about the distance – it’s about problem-solving, supporting each other, and pushing through when it gets tough. The Scouts from Enfield showed real grit and teamwork today. We’re incredibly proud of them.”

For many, this was their first time tackling such a challenging hike — and they did so with enthusiasm and smiles. One participant, James Thorp, said:

“It was hard going at times, especially the hills, but we kept each other going. Finishing the hike felt amazing. I can’t wait to do the main event next year.”

Events like the Chiltern 20 perfectly capture what Scouting is all about — taking on new adventures, building confidence, learning skills for life and having fun outdoors with friends.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported, encouraged and volunteered to make this event possible. You’ve helped give our young people an experience they’ll never forget.

Enfield’s Two New King Scouts

Now we also have reason to celebrate this year in Enfield. The King’s Scout Award is the highest youth award achievable in the Scouting, it is no small task, it requires persistence and commitment over at least 18 months.

In July, Aidan and Louis were both presented with this prestigious award. Aidan is a member of Scout Network and Louis is a leader with Parker Bowles Explorers.

On behalf of the entire Scout District I’d like to congratulate Louis and Aidan on their achievement.

Enfield Scouts Celebrate VE Day

Last week, the @Parker Bowles Explorer Scout Unit had an incredible opportunity to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe right in the heart of Central London. We were joined by fellow Scouts from across Enfield, the Mayor of Enfield, and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant at the Civic Centre. Together, we lit a beacon of peace, marking this significant anniversary with a heartfelt tribute.
